Kinetic Sculpture

What is kinetic sculpture?

Kinetic sculpture is a sculpture that has a basic element of movement through out. The sculpture contains movement that is captured by the viewer where they will feel it has some sort of movement flow.
Artists use sturdy materials like plastic, metal, wood, wire, pottery, thick fabric, nylon and burlap. It all depends on what they are making and where the piece will live when your done making it. If its outdoors, artist will use materials that are thick, sturdy and waterproof. If its indoors, they might use a more flexible type of material and not worry too much if its water proof or not.

I love the idea of creating these animals, I also love that these were all placed in nature to make it seem a little more "normal". I especially like the horses and how they are tapped around the tree as if its a forest carousel. I also really like the detail of the suction cups on the octopus' tenticals.

Young Deok

Young Deok makes 3D sculptures out of bicycle chains, aka link chains. At first i didnt know that this was bicycle chains but thats what intrigued me the most. He wraps around and weaves link chains into a figure or face of somesort. From far away it looks like its silver painted but up close you can see the chains and it gives the piece a little bit of texture and pattern with out distracting you from the piece itself. The faces he makes are huge sculptures that take up the room and his body sluptures tend to be from the neck down or covers the face in some way. But he does still created sculptures with the face and body both seen. He tends to make artwork very similar to each other and called the same name for example if you do a general search of his poece Nirvana you get Nirvana #1 and Nirvana #2 etc, but each piece is different.

My favorite piece is Nirvana #5

Plaster turned into 3D Art

An artist in Austrailia, Shokoofeh Azar, who was originally born in Iran and moved to Austrailia for a better life and more creative life style, created a sculpture out of plaster. The piece is a mold or cast of a womens torso/chest area and has two birds one going inside te neck and the other on its shoulder. It also has a piece of what looks like a broken face where the heart would be. I particularly like this piece for the blue bird, everything except the blue bird is white. The artist describes the art piece, called "the songs and yearnings" as sign or symbol "of all our loves and failures." And I feel the blue bird represents boldness in the piece and a way of broadening love and failure. I think this because the blue bird is the emphasis of the art piece. It stands out to me and my eye when I first look at this piece.

(This is wear to find The Songs and Yearnings)

Robert Paisley created a 3D map of Venice out of plaster. I love this piece because it looks so impossibe to be real and to be made out of plaster. It has big and small details and looks so realistic as if you were in a plane flying through venice thats maybe covered in snow at the time. Venice is not the only one he has made, he makes maps of all different well known cities.

Another 3D sculpture made out of plaster and other materials like wood, cardboard, plastic and paper. Is an art piece made by Valery van Leeuwen. He created 3D city, looks like a minature model of a city but more "abstract". It doesnt have the basic vertical straight buildings. The art piece is curved and bent and it looks like its crushing down right in front of you. The textures and transitions from perfectly fine city to falling apartis what I like most about this art piece.

3D artist Michael Eden

"Michael Eden is a maker whose work sits at the intersection of craft, design and art, exploring contemporary themes through the redesign of historical, culturally familiar objects utilising digital manufacturing and materials." http://www.michael-eden.com/about/

Michael Eden was a basic ceramic potter. A research project called MPhil at the Royal College of Art had shown him how to digitally inhance his artwork. He orginially just used his hands, clay and tools to create 3D sculptures like pots. Then he started to use the help of technology to make it more creative, he then soon started using the two together.

http://www.michael-eden.com/edenceramics/ Here is a journal he would update his fans about. The introduction talking about how he was at that time currently workin with Andy Jeffery and Forest Snyder of 3D Systems about ceramic 3D printing. This would mean you could print out a vase or any ceramic sculture using a computure and a printer.

All of his work is on this website: http://www.michael-eden.com I am not able to post pictures at this time. I personally like this artists work more for the mix of "old and new".  He still makes ceramic sculptures from hand but he also worked with others to create and discover the ability of 3D ceramic printing. Which is mixing orginal basic art into the digital modern world, and i find that very fascinating that someone is and was able to do that.

Is social media helping or hurting?

https://www.mentalhelp.net/articles/facebook-and-mental-health-is-social-media-hurting-or-helping/

My personal opinion, social media does both but creates more harm than good. I think the real problem is the security and safety of what you can do, find and see. Social Media like Facebook depending on what pages you follow depends on what you see and what you get. I think social media helps news travel faster and better. But at the same time things travel too fast and not with the right information causing conflict and harm whether its to the person themself mentally and or physically.
Also those who grow up with social media are developing and dealing with certain things at a far much younger age than they should be. Which causes a mental health problems. And the fact that its not controlled puts others in harms way for more problems in their future.
But for those who can over see the negative, and over see the false advertisment and news i think social media helps them.
