Negative space, is the area around and between subjects in a piece of art. Its a blank area where there is no detail except emptiness. Space is used for artistic effect for the "real" subject of the image/art piece. Its the empty and/or empty space around an object that results in defining the object. It helps gain attention and emphasize your main point of view in your art work.
The last three sculptures, were created by Sukhi Barber. Barbers common art work is a person in the meditation position, and sculpted into it is negative space. The artist uses shapes and designs, carves them out and the negative space around and in it, gives the design more of a pop. Emphasizing the emptiness.
this is a really good post, I like it because you picked a different type of negative space, I want to know how the first image is holding itself? I do want some of your opinions in the image and the text is really hard to read because its whitefish grey. other than GREAT JOB!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nila on this text situation. However, that pillow photo made me feel inspired to create more pillows possibly with cutouts.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog.

I feel like the pictures you picked out . Especially the pillow! I also think the text is a bit hard to read, but I got by it.
ReplyDeleteThe text was easy for me to read, don't worry. Good job explaining what negative space is. I understand it a bit more.
